Sep 23Spanish Culture Club September 15th - October 15th is Spanish Heritage month! Did you know that the projected Hispanic population of the United States in 2060 is 119 million? Wow! That would constitute 28.6 percent of the nation's population by that date. Please join Spanish Culture Club for our first meeting on Wednesday September 25th @3:00 in room 113.

Sep 23FBLA Are you interested in learning about business and entrepreneurship? If so, please come to Future Business Leaders of America's first meeting after school on Tuseday in room 172B. We will discuss club activites and events. Please see Mr. Gielink or Noi Sandlers if you have any questions. All are welcome.

Sep 23homecoming Tickets for the Homecoming Dance on October 5th are on sale this week and next week. The dance is from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. in the Main Gym. Students must arrive at the dance by 8:30 p.m. to be admitted. Tickets are $20 per person and can only be purchased online until midnight October 5. Details have been communicated to students at school many times. The link to purchase tickets is: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/solon-homecoming-a-night-in-paris-tickets-48252445363 No tickets will be sold at the door. Homecoming t-shirts may be picked up outside the bookstore from Friday September 27th until Friday, October 4th with proof of the purchase of a ticket. A link is posted on the Ticket Purchase site for the Dance Guest Authorization Form, which must be completed for guests who go to a school other than Solon High School to attend the dance. The site requests an access code for sign-in. This is the student’s Solon ID number. Students who have past due fees or whose Annual Information and Emergency Contact Update forms have not yet been submitted many not purchase tickets. The list of students still owing past due fees and/or emergency contact update forms is posted by the bookstore. As soon as the fees are reconciled and/or forms submitted, the student’s ID number is released to purchase tickets to the dance.

Sep 23FPS Informational Meeting Today The first meeting of Solon Future Problem Solvers is today, Monday, September 23 after school in the lecture hall. Come find out how you can participate in this fun and challenging program. If you are unable to attend, email the coach (Sabrina Tirpak) at her Solon BOE email address. This meeting will end at approximately 3:30.

Sep 23Lifeguards Needed Attention Students: The Solon Recreation Department is currently hiring lifeguards and learn to swim instructors to work at the Solon Community Center after school and on weekends. We are looking for fun, energetic people that like working with a variety of ages of people. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age and should hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. Those that wish to apply that do not have the ARC certification may apply and will be required to take the certification at no cost through the Solon Community Center. Sep 24Spanish Culture Club Did you know that Hispanic Heritage Month started as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 by President Lyndon Johnson? It was then expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18. Please join Spanish Culture Club tomorrow after school in room 113 for our first meeting of the year!

Sep 27Spanish Culture Club Do you know who Chef Douglas Rodriguez is? He is the Hispanic Amierican considered the driving force behind the 1990s Nuevo Latino culinary trend! This is a fusion of traditional Latin American cuisine with U.S. flavors and ingredients. In 1989, at age 24, he opened his first restaurant, Yuca, in Miami. And today, he has restaurants in Miami Beach and Philadelphia, four cookbooks and multiple awards! Thank you for celebrating with Hispanic Heritage month with Spanish Culture club.
