Congratulations also to sophomore Trey Mallia for being named Honorable Mention All-Ohio.
These honors are based on last weekend's state Quiz Bowl tournament in which 48 teams and over 250 students competed.

Apr 7 | Day of Silence Listen up! Friday of this week is the Day of (No) Silence. Started in the mid 90’s by two college students, the Day of Silence is a nationally-recognized demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies all around the country protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools. Each day this week, GSA will be highlighting one story or person from the LGBTQ community in order to lift up LGBTQ voices and stories. If you would like to take part in the demonstration by taking a vow of silence, please come to room 122 on Friday, April 11th at 7:30am for our brief meeting to kick off the day. |

Apr 7 | Future Problem Solvers Over the past week/month 43 SHS students participated in Future Problem Solving State Bowl. Yesterday, 33 of these students won team and individual awards in: Creative Writing, Storytelling, Community Projects, and Global Issues. To say that Solon High School was well represented and frequently celebrated at the 2025 Ohio FPS State Bowl would be an understatement. We are so proud of our FPS participants and look forward to how well they will compete in June at World Finals!

Solon High School's National Alliance on Mental Illness has invited guest speakers to present the nationally acclaimed Ending the Silence program after school on Tuesday, April 8th, from 3 to 4 p.m in room 113! Ending the Silence is an engaging presentation aimed at helping youth learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if you or a loved one are showing symptoms of a mental health challenge. Pull up!

Apr 8 | Day of Silence Tuesday, April 8th: Each day this week, GSA is highlighting someone from the LGBTQ community to combat the erasure of LGBTQ+ people, especially transgender and nonbinary people, from public life. Today’s spotlight is Frank Ocean who’s a bisexual singer, popular for some of his songs like “White Ferrari”, “Thinkin Bout You”, “She”, and his new snippet he released about a month ago. He changed the music culture for the LGBTQ community by inspiring more queer musicians to come out and show pride in the queer community. If you would like to take part in the demonstration by taking a vow of silence and wearing pride gear, please come to room 122 on Friday, April 11th at 7:30am for our brief meeting to kick off the day. |

Today’s spotlight is Sylvia Rivera. Sylvia Rivera was a leader in the Gay Liberation movement. She was a trans woman and was one of the forefront members of not only the Gay Liberation Front and the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionary (or STAR) but she also helped create an LGBTQ friendly church. While she passed away many years ago, her legacy lives on through the Sylvia Rivera Law Project which is a nonprofit organization that assists young trans people of color who are in poverty. If you would like to take part in the demonstration by taking a vow of silence and wearing pride gear, please come to room 122 tomorrow at 7:30am for our brief meeting to kick off the day. |
